Dr. Baker

Hi I’m Dr. Noel Baker. My wife and I started Baker Family Chiropractic together in 2004. We started dating our junior year of high school. Ironically I knew of her since elementary school and I would go play basketball at her house with  her brothers since my friend lived so close to them. I knew they had a hot sister but she never came out to play basketball with us. We were together 5 years and got married, in 2000, as I was finishing up undergraduate and heading to Graduate school to pursue Chiropractic. We have never left each other side since. Together we’ve faced many challenges in our 28 years together but we’ve navigated thru them, grown thru them, and move thru them hand in hand, side by side. We have two sons, both of whom were born at our house with our midwife Deette.
Stephanie worked as a massage therapist as I finished undergrad and continued in her profession until our first son was born in 2007.
She now works as a very integral part of Pure Functional Medicine.

My life was changed by a chiropractor in 1999. In early 1996, I and a friend were coming home, from the North Carolina mountains after skiing for 12 hours straight, and I fell asleep at the wheel. I only a deep gash above my left eye, and thankfully my friend and I walked away from that rollover accident. The following year I was on my way to pick up my Stephanie after she got off work because snow was laying on the ground quickly. I was about a mile and a half from my house when I was hit head on and the impact pushed my truck off the road where it rolled over and landed on its wheels. I walked away from this rollover accident as well.
Sometimes, especially with automobile accidents, the physical trauma may not manifest for some time. In this case, 6 months after the last accident, excruciating hip pain began to plague me. For the next 12 months I spent time exploring what the medical field could find, hoping for answers to the pain that would not subside. The pain affected every aspect of my life.

After seeing the orthopedic doc that worked with ETSU athletes, x-rays, MRI’s, CT scans, and bone scans, I was told they didn’t know why I was in so much pain and that I should take 12 Advil a day for a month.
I knew that it was not a lack of ibuprofen that was causing the pain but I didn’t know where else to turn.

My mom at the time was seeing Dr. Jerry and Kelly Price and she said, why don’t you go see my chiropractors. At that point I thought, why not, I have tried and looked at everything else.

At this point I was less than two years away from a chemical engineering degree and planning on continuing to get my PhD in organic chemistry because it just came easy to me.

I decided to try Chiropractic, and I limped in on a Friday and walked out with no pain… ZERO pain for the first time in over 12 months!!! This was a life changing experience for me to say the least. Everything I enjoyed in life I was now able to do again. At that point I decided to change my major to Chiropractic. If I could help change another life the way they had helped me, then that was what I was meant to do.

In the beginning of 2002 we were fortunate to be introduced to Dr. Theodore Baroody. We spent every moment we could with him for the next 18 years. To say he changed our lives would be an understatement. Dr. Baroody learned from healing masters all over the world and thankfully he tried to put everything he knew into a comprehensive holistic approach. From 2006-2019 Dr. Jay Erickson and I helped Dr. Baroody teach his work to anyone who wanted to learn it. Dr. Baroody was instrumental in changing my life and Stephanie’s life.  He studied with many “old school Osteopaths”, in his words, who taught him a myriad of ways to move bones, adjust vertebrae and facilitate healing in his clients. He was a phenomenal chiropractor and the reason why we approach Health from a Holistic standpoint, viewing every soul who comes to us as unique. Dr. Theodore Alexander Baroody passed away in August of 2020. Our oldest son is named after him and to this day we still utilize Dr. Baroody’s work at Pure Functional Medicine.

God put us on a path and brought many souls into our lives that have had great impacts on us and those around us. We continue to learn and grow with the mission of helping anyone we can.
When you come see us, expect a miracle!

Dr. Wright

Hello, I am Dr. Zack Wright. I'm a southwest Virginia native having lived in Abingdon, VA most of my life and graduating from Patrick Henry Highschool in Glade Spring, VA in 2015. It was there I met and started dating my beautiful wife, Taylor. While in highschool I competed in a number of sports including football, wrestling and track and field. Thanks to these sports and some of the aches and pains that go along with them, I found chiropractic. Specifically, I found Dr. Noel Baker. I came limping into Baker Family Chiropractic, circa 2013, and walked out amazed, intrigued and for the first time, charged with the desire to serve and help others as I had been helped. My life was changed by Chiropractic and the realization that the body has the ability to heal on its own, with a clear nervous system.

I felt certain I was called to help others on their journey, whatever that may be, and I felt that chiropractic was the best way for me to do that. The next step for me was getting an undergraduate degree. I attended Bluefield College in Bluefield, VA where I studied biology and played football all four years.

After graduation, in 2019, I started working at Pure Functional Medicine as a Chiropractic Therapy Assistant while I applied and awaited acceptance to Sherman College of Chiropractic, the same school Dr. Baker attended. By January of 2020 I had moved to Spartanburg, SC to start my first quarter of Chiropractic school. This was the beginning of many hours of classes, studying, tests and National Board Exams. Throughout this chapter of my life I made some great friends and married my best friend, Taylor, who stuck with me through all of it.

The plan was always to return to PFM to serve the great people of East Tennessee and the surrounding areas, following graduation, and that's just what I did. I now live in Bristol, TN with my wife and our two dogs Ruby and Maple.

I have made it my mission to inspire soulful community through chiropractic care... because EVERYTHING works better with a full nerve supply!
